“Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.” -Bill Cunningham
Fashion is fickle. One moment a particular style is trendy, and in the next, it is considered tacky and obsolete, and after a significant number of years, it would become fashionable again. But that is just how it is in the world fashion, trends are temporary, and styles come and go. It is precisely for this reason, that fashion forward enthusiasts would welcome the brand new year as a fantastic opportunity for a style and wardrobe update—much like how it is this 2017.
For this new year, give your closets a revamp and come up with fresh new styles. From a myriad of wholesale clothing you can choose from, and brand retail buys you can buy in the store, you have limitless options and if you do not know where to begin, here are a few pointers to guide you:
1. Create a color scheme
You may have a penchant for dark and neutral colors ever since and that is not necessarily a bad thing. But if you find yourself wearing the same colors and prints, take the new year as an opportunity to spruce it up a bit and introduce a bit more color into your wardrobes. While you can retain your neutral color scheme, there is no harm in introducing some colorful pastels into the mix such as periwinkle, rose gold and some lavender.
2. Keep the trendy pieces you like
A particular clothing item may be trendy right now, but it does not exactly sit well with you. If this is the case, there is no absolute need to keep them. Just because everyone finds them stylish, it does not mean you have to as well. Part of being trendy is finding your own signature style, and if a particular item does not quite appeal to your taste, then toss it or give it away.
3. Try something new
While it is all well and good to have your signature look, it would be great to experiment with something new as well. This is particularly the case for individuals stuck in a fashion rut. If you do not want to commit to drastic changes in your wardrobe, start small. It can be in the form of fire engine pumps, to begin with, or a new lace-up dress—opt for something that pushes you out of your comfort zone and would instantly give your wardrobe a new look.
4. Raid your mom’s closet
Do not be afraid to try on some of your mom’s clothes as it is an excellent way to expand your fashion perspective as well as update your look—without having to spend a single dollar. You and your mum might have different fashion tastes, but your tastes in clothes and styles would converge at some point, and that is evidence by your penchant for borrowing her clothes. So, whenever you find your mum cleaning out her closet, ask her if she has some clothes to spare and see if there is anything you like from the pile and add it to your wardrobe.
